If it is a life threatening problem, please call 911.
Should a concern about your child arise after office hours, please call the office. Our after-hours telephone message will instruct you on what to do to contact the answering service. The answering service is staffed with registered nurses who will call you back to speak with you regarding your child. You will need to inactivate the block on your phone by dialing *87 so that we will be able to return your phone call. If you have not received a return call within 30 minutes to 1 hour, please call again.
If the pediatric nurse feels your child needs to be seen immediately, she may refer you directly to an emergency room.
The answering service should be used for emergencies and health issues that cannot wait until the regular office hours. Calls regarding administrative matters, refills of medications for chronic illnesses and non-urgent information available in the office “baby book” or the office website will result in a charge to cover the cost of the service.
Calls that should not be charged include:
1- Calls related to conditions and or situations not addressed in the baby book provided during the newborn visit or not addressed in the web site (www.abwpediatrics.com)
2- Calls resulting in office visit the next day or referral to the emergency room.
3- Calls related to an office visit over the last 7 days or calls related to the need to change care plan on an acute or chronic condition that could not wait until regular office hours.
